another month, another set of goals. I remember when summer meant sooo much. end of school, internships, fun with friends. Since arriving here I have totally taken summer for granted.  June 21st came by and I did not flinch. Dominicans say that these months are the hottest, but they honestly aren’t that different from January or February. enough of weather talk. This month should be pretty straight forward: work, work, work, FUN. Once I get on the plane of July 30, I want to make sure I can switch off 100% from my job. I want to focus on some…

I’m super late. My bad. I think I have an excuse. This month will be simple as I’m buckling down and just focusing on one thing. My teacher friends are leaving for the summer so I will have a bit less distractions and can focus. These past few weeks have been hard. First I thought I was finally going over to Haiti and plans fell through for the second time. It might have been for the best as you never know why things happen. My bus tickets are good for a year so I will use them later on in…

Last week I went on a relaxing three day escape to Punta Cana with a friend. She was escaping med school and I was escaping everything that Santo Domingo has thrown at me over the past few months. There came a point a few weeks ago where I was through with my job. #icant #nomore #imdone. You know the feeling where you know you are exaggerating a bit but you still feel like having a breakdown over work? Being away from my sanctuary (aka Mom’s house in NJ) has forced me to actually work through issues instead of running to Mommy’s couch.  Starting a new job is like starting with so much energy in a race. Then you get to the middle and all of a sudden you are walking the parts through the woods where you know no…

I have been doing a lot of thinking over the past few days and so it is time for action. April was a great month. I especially enjoyed an Optometry Mission trip we hosted where 25 Optometrist gave care to over 1,000 patients in only 5 days. Before then I was suffering from work burnout (post on that coming soon) and being able to be a bit more hands-on with patient care and community work while meeting new people rejuvenated me. I have three months before I am back in the US for a much needed vacation. May has two…
